Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council

Homes Direct and Homehunt are closing on 31st March 2021. You will need to re-register your housing application.  Please do not ignore - act now!

The way that you apply for housing in Newcastle-under-Lyme is changing and if you still want to be considered for social housing you must take action.

In Newcastle there is a Choice Based Lettings (CBL) scheme, operated by Newcastle Housing Advice (NHA) called NHA Options, which gives you more choice about where you want to live and gives you a better idea of what homes are available in the Newcastle area.

NHA are working with Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Aspire Housing and have created a joint housing allocations policy to deliver a straightforward, effective and fair way of assessing and prioritising applicants housing needs. The new banding priority is slightly different so your banding may change on the new system but this will still reflect your housing need as per the new policy. A copy of the Allocations policy can be found in the help guides on our new NHA Options website.

To support the new Policy and existing NHA Options CBL scheme, NHA are launching a new joint housing register with Aspire Housing.  The new register will be used to administer how you apply for housing in the Borough.  The new system, NHA Options, will go live from 1st of April 2021. You will need to re-register and update your details on the new system by 31st March 2021 to be able to bid on advertised properties. Please note that if you already have an application with NHA on Homes Direct or with Aspire Housing on Homehunt, these will no longer be in use after 31st March 2021 and you must re-register on the new NHA Options system (see link below). This new CBL system replaces both of the other systems on Homes Direct and Homehunt so you will only need to re-register once.

NHA and Aspire Housing will continue to advertise and offer properties via Homes Direct and Homehunt until 31st March 2021. Any applications you have on these systems will not automatically transfer to the new NHA options system. You will need to re-register on the new NHA Options system so we have time to validate your application before we go live on 1 April 2021.

To register for housing and to join the new NHA Options scheme you can apply on line here www.nhaoptions.co.uk If you are unable to complete the online form you may wish to ask a family member or support worker to assist you.

Please provide as much information as possible and answer all of the questions as this will enable us to deal with your application more effectively.

Once you have submitted your application this will need to be verified and made live by the NHA Team. You must provide all of your proofs in order for your housing application to be verified and made live. You can do this online via the new website by using the document uploader facility. Your housing application will not be verified or made live until all your proofs have been received.

Once you have completed your application in full and submitted it you can then log into your account and add supporting documents to your application. These will need to be in the format of a pdf or picture file. There is a “How to upload your documents” guide for you to follow on the “Help” page of our website if needed.

If you are having difficulties in registering then please email us on customerservices@newcastle-staffs.gov.uk or contact 01782 717717 for further advice.
